Oral arguments are open to the public and may be viewed in person or online, when available.

Oral arguments begin at a time specified on the court's docket. Ending time varies based on the number of cases scheduled, their complexity, and the number of questions asked by the court.

      Court of Appeals dockets

The Kansas Court of Appeals reserves certain dates each year on which to consider cases. When the Court of Appeals schedules a case to be considered, it puts the case on a docket.

The Court of Appeals sits in panels of three judges at locations throughout the state, including the court's primary courtroom in the Kansas Judicial Center in Topeka. Each three-judge panel will take up 18 appeals over a two-day period every month.

The Court of Appeals may schedule special settings as needed.

      Court of Appeals dockets

When a case does not present a new question of law, and oral argument is deemed neither helpful to the court nor essential to a fair hearing of the appeal, it is placed on the summary calendar. These cases are deemed submitted without oral argument.
